A TV series in development

Fogtown is a unique, puppet-based mystery/comedy TV series for all ages, in development now.

Combining live puppetry with the latest of Unreal Engine-powered virtual production, Fogtown is a blend of old-school artistry and cutting-edge innovations, all designed to produce visuals reminiscent of stop-motion animation but at the speed and efficiency of a live action production.

A pilot episode premiered August 2024 at the PAM CUT Tomorrow Theater in Portland, OR, and Fogtown won an Editor's Choice award at the 2024 Bay Area Maker Faire.

My role

I run the Fogtown set as a director/showrunner.

As the team leader of Fogtown (a crew of over 40 artisans contributing across various departments), I've conceptualized the project along with my co-creator Austin Hillebrecht.

My other roles on the series include director of photography, editor, co-writer, producer, and production manager. Yes, it's a lot of hats!

The successful crowdfunder

In summer 2022, I led the team through a monthlong crowdfunding campaign (with an 8 month planning window).

During our campaign, we released well-loved videos every weekday for a full month, ranging from puppetry skits, behind-the-scenes interviews, cast testimonials, and even an interactive choice-driven adventure experience powered by branching video on YouTube.

Major wins along the crowdfunder included securing the fiscal sponsorship of PAM CUT, huge amounts of organic spread over social media, and raising over $51,000 to produce Fogtown's pilot episode (and a game, A Rum Case in Fogtown).

We also amassed a large built-in fanbase before the pilot even came out: a vibrant international community of puppetry fans and Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts alike.
